Travelogue: Time Traveling on the Yellowstone Trail

Travelogue: Time Traveling on the Yellowstone Trail In-Person

In 1923, John Johnston's grandfather took his family on a 2000-mile road trip from Pittsburgh to Yellowstone National Park. Back at that time there were no paved roads beyond Kansas City and traveling by car was an adventure even when nothing went wrong. The Yellowstone Trail was one of America’s first cross country roads. 100 years later, John would too, exploring their route along the Yellowstone Trail. It was a journey of discovery...of family history, the Yellowstone Trail, the American west and a little bit about John himself.

Join John Johnston as he tells the story of how he recreated this epic road trip on its 100th anniversary and shares the story with notes from his mother’s journal and photos from his grandfather's Kodak Brownie camera combined with his own photos and narrative. The presentation will be an overview, to allow time for questions.

A complete account of the trip can be viewed on the Yellowstone Trail website. http://www.yellowstonetrail.org/Docs/JJJohnston.pdf

Presented by John Johnston (Captain). Registration not required.
